FAQ's About Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy
Do I need a prescription for HBOT?
At Healbody Wellness, we understand that obtaining a prescription for hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) may seem daunting. That's why we're here to help. To ensure that you receive the best possible care, a prescription from a qualified medical professional is required before beginning HBOT treatment. If you do not already have a clinician familiar with HBOT, our team is here to assist you in finding one. We strive to make the process as seamless as possible, so you can focus on what's most important- your healing and well-being.
What will HBOT feel like?

At Healbody Wellness, we want to ensure that you are fully informed and prepared for your hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) treatment. During the compression stage, you may experience a sensation of fullness in your ears and a slight increase in temperature. This is normal and similar to what you might feel when flying in an airplane. Yawning or swallowing can help alleviate the fullness, and the temperature will stabilize once the desired pressurization is reached.

The treatment stage of HBOT is entirely painless and comfortable. You will breathe in concentrated oxygen in a pressurized environment, and during this time you can relax, sleep, read or listen to music.

During the decompression stage, you may notice a slight cooling in the chamber and a popping sensation in your ears, similar to what you may experience on an airplane. This stage usually lasts about 10-15 minutes.

After the HBOT session, there is no downtime. You will be able to immediately resume your regular activities.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns, and we will be happy to assist you.

How often should I use an HBOT chamber?

At Healbody Wellness, we understand that everyone's needs are different and the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) can vary. In most cases, patients may need to undergo multiple sessions before noticing the full benefits of treatment. The frequency and duration of your therapy will depend on the reason for your treatment and the specific condition being treated.

Based on our experience, we have found that the most effective use of a hyperbaric oxygen therapy chamber is to undergo one-hour treatment sessions conducted once or twice a day for 4-8 weeks. It's important to note that there is no medical benefit to receiving HBOT for longer than 2 hours at a time.

We recommend consulting with your physician and our highly trained technicians to determine the ideal treatment duration and schedule for you. We are dedicated to providing personalized and effective care to help you achieve optimal health outcomes.

Is it safe?
Hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a safe and effective treatment option when used properly. To ensure safety, it is important to clear the ears during decompression and follow the instructions of your physician and technician. Additionally, adhering to medical device guidelines is crucial. With these precautions in place, HBOT therapy has minimal risks and can provide significant benefits.
What is the difference between HBOT and an oxygen mask?

Breathing in extra oxygen through an oxygen mask can provide some benefits by increasing the amount of oxygen carried by your blood's hemoglobin. However, to truly maximize the amount of oxygen in your blood, hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) is a more effective solution. By increasing the atmospheric pressure while breathing in concentrated oxygen, HBOT allows more oxygen to dissolve into the blood plasma, which typically only contains 3% oxygen. This not only increases the amount of oxygen that binds to your blood's hemoglobin, but also significantly increases the amount of oxygen in the blood plasma beyond what is possible at normal air pressure levels.

Can I drink carbonated beverages before an HBOT treatment?
It is recommended that individuals avoid consuming alcohol or carbonated beverages for a period of four hours prior to undergoing a session of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) to ensure the best possible outcome from the treatment.
What should I avoid wearing while in the HBOT chamber?

To ensure the safety and effectiveness of Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), it is recommended to remove contact lenses before entering the chamber. Additionally, any wounds should be kept clean and free of ointments or coverings. It is always best to consult with your physician and technician at Healbody Wellness to determine what is safe to wear or bring into the chamber during your treatment session.

If I have a cold or flu, can I still undergo hyperbaric oxygen therapy?

In order to achieve the best results from Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), it is recommended to delay your treatment session until any cold or flu symptoms have subsided. This will help ensure that the treatment is as effective as possible.

Can I modify my HBOT chamber?
It is strictly prohibited to modify a portable hyperbaric chamber, regardless of whether it was purchased directly from us or not. The chambers are designed and approved by the FDA to operate at specific pressure levels, any alteration to the chamber would be considered adulteration by the FDA and would automatically invalidate the safety compliance approval. It is essential for your health and safety to use the chamber as intended, and not to make any modifications.
